Postman API Builder

How to create and send a request in Postman?
To create and send a request in Postman, follow these steps:

1. Open Postman:
  • Launch Postman on your computer.
  • Upon opening, you will be greeted by the main interface, where API requests can be managed and sent.

2. Create a New Request:
  • To create a new request, click the "New" button or use the "+ New" tab at the top left. Then, select "Collection" and click "Add Request."
  • You will be prompted to select the HTTP method (e.g., GET, POST, PUT, DELETE) from a dropdown menu.

3. Enter the Request URL:
  • In the address bar next to the HTTP method dropdown, enter the API endpoint URL where You intend to send the request.
  • If the URL requires path variables or query parameters, these can be added directly within the URL or by utilizing the "Params" tab located below the URL bar.
4. Include Query Parameters (if needed):
  • If your API requires query parameters, they can be added in the "Params" tab. Postman will automatically append these parameters to the URL.
  • For example, if you add “key=value” in the Params tab, it will be appended to the URL as “key=value”.

5. Add Required Headers (if needed):
  • You can configure necessary headers by clicking on the "Headers" tab.
  • These headers could include standard fields like Content-Type and Authorization or custom headers specific to your API. Provide the header name in the first column and its corresponding value in the second column.

6. Add Request Body Data (for POST, PUT, PATCH):
  • For APIs that require sending data (typically with POST, PUT, or PATCH requests), you can specify this data in the "Body" tab.
  • Different formats such as raw, form-data, x-www-form-URL encoded, etc., can be selected based on what the API expects. You should enter the necessary data in the appropriate format.

7. Send the Request:
  • Once the request is configured, you can test it by clicking the "Send" button located on the right side of the URL bar.
  • Postman will then send the request to the API server and wait for a response.
  • Click “Save“ button to save your data.

8. Analyse the Response:
  • After the server responds, Postman will display the response in the lower section of the interface.
  • You can review the response status code (e.g., 200 OK), headers, and body content (which may be in formats like JSON, XML, HTML, etc.).
  • This allows you to verify if the request was successful and identify any errors.
